The dance industry structure in America is ahead of the Nigerian dance industry structure but they are still experiencing the same Challenges...From Artists to choreographers , to contracts , to low rates/payments and conflicts of interests e.t.c
Below is a link to an interesting read from rolling Stone magazine concerning the Dance industry which was triggered by the poor payment of dancers on Beyonce's video shoot.
I always tell dancers that everywhere you go the same Challenges are faced.
The dancers you admire out there may be living "A dream" but are far from being rich, most of them are not driving big cars or cars sef 🙈,some are living in shared apartments or studios and living from pay check to pay check or working other jobs on the side. Also, a lot of studios and dance companies are facing financial challenges e.t.c ...my opinion is that even if rates are reconsidered or increased for them (Or finally decided for us in Nigeria 😀 ) it would Never still be enough for artistic fulfilment...
So in -truth ,your individual Success and rates/Payment depends on how much value you have and how much of business you know...
And by business ,I don't only mean the exchange of money but also the exchange of values and the understanding of ethics and principles that build you up for longevity and gives you a reputation of Value.
As I always say , there are people selling pure water and making millions, also there are people selling suya and making millions.
It not particularly what you do.
After alot of years making mistakes ,losing and winning with business,
I am on a personal mission to grow my finance and business as an artist and also help people do so. Money is not always a yard stick for measuring Success but it is sure is a darn good one.
